Showing-Up

My word for 2015 is Show-Up.

I am five months into this year and just now showing up here on this page. However, I have been focused on my word since January 1st.

December is when I take time to review the past year and to being to think about the upcoming new year and the word that will be my companion for the next twelve months. I enjoy the process and look forward it.

The ocean gave me my word for this year.

I was walking the beach thinking through random thoughts when I found a sand dollar. I wasn't hunting for a sand dollar. I simply showed up for my walk and by showing up I opened myself up for the gift of a sand dollar.

How much of life is like that? How much of life is missed because I fail to show up? How much of life is enjoyed because I simply do show up?

There were many situations in my life that I felt could be improved and  expanded if I simply showed up fully and consistently. Five months into this year and I'm very happy with my word, my focus. I have consistently shown up for my morning workout sessions. I show up on my sketchbook pages and in my journal. I show up at my desk daily and more happily now that I have switched to a standing desk, but that is another story. I show up in the kitchen with a determined focus to prepare and eat better food. I show up for events and meetings with an open mind knowing that often the most difficult step for me is the one necessary to simply show up.

So, with a grateful heart I share some of the ocean that I see on my beach walks.

Expansive and full...

Expansive and full...

Moody darkness overhead. This was taken seconds before the rain fell in sheets.

Rough and wild...storms out at sea.

Messy and unkept.. I love seaweed days.

Calm and serene.
